General questions

1. What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ)?

BJJ is a grappling based martial art. It has been effectively employed in various situations, such as Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), the military, law-enforcement, and self-defence. It is now one of the world’s fastest growing sports enjoyed by people of all ages. Efficacy aside, BJJ is highly engaging, and it is a lot of fun. Welcome to your new addiction.

2. I have not been involved in any kind of physical activity. How do I get started?

There is absolutely no pre-requisite fitness level that you need to get started. We have seen plenty of previously-sedentary individuals becoming fitter, stronger, and losing weight through BJJ.

3. I have no experience with BJJ. How do I get started?

Our regular classes are beginner friendly, and we also have classes specifically geared towards people with zero experience. On top of that, our coaches and staff are very personable, and we will always make the effort to connect. Simply show up, get involved, and speak to your coaches and fellow teammates about whatever doubts you have. You will be having fun in no time!

4. When can I start BJJ?

As early as 4 years old! We have classes for kids and teens. For our schedule, please visit https://www.fieldassemblyhv.co/schedule. For more information on kids classes, please visit www.fieldassemblyhv.co/juniors

5. Is BJJ dangerous?

As with all sports, it depends on the environment, the participants, and the people in charge. Our management and coaching team are constantly reviewing safety practices, closely monitoring the way training and sparring is conducted, and constantly collecting feedback from members. Safety is a high priority at Field Assembly.

6. How often can I train?

This really depends on your goals. Our competitors train daily, while our more recreational members train for about 1 to 3 times a week. The real answer is - as many times as you want! We have unlimited memberships that will make this worthwhile for you.

7. How do participants deal with the close body contact that comes with BJJ?

This is a highly understandable concern. BJJ is such a cerebral activity that once you get into it, close body contact is the last thing that comes to mind. However, we get that there is an initial barrier that needs to be overcome. We have Beginner Classes, which are designed to ease new participants into the martial art. For our female members, we have also gone a step further and scheduled Women-Only Classes every week.
